Regular Sharpening: Over time, the cutting edges dull due to repeated use. Dull bits require more torque, generate excess heat, and produce poor-quality holes. Use a dedicated drill bit sharpener or professional grinding service to restore the 118° angle and maintain peak performance. Avoid overheating the bit during sharpening to preserve the temper of the HSS material.

Clean After Each Use: Metal shavings, resin, and debris can accumulate on the flutes and cutting edges, reducing efficiency and increasing heat buildup. After each use, clean the bits with a soft brass or nylon brush. For stubborn residues, wipe with a lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol—avoid water-based cleaners that may promote rust.

Proper Storage: Always return the bits to their designated slots in the included plastic case. Keeping them organized prevents contact damage and protects the delicate cutting tips. Store the case in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from humidity, corrosive chemicals, or direct sunlight.

Lubrication and Rust Prevention: Apply a light coat of machine oil or rust-inhibiting spray before long-term storage. This is especially important when working with ferrous metals that leave behind iron particles. Wipe off excess oil before use to avoid slippage in the chuck. Reapply periodically if stored for extended periods.

Inspection for Damage: Before each use, inspect the bits for signs of bending, chipping, or cracking. Even minor deformities can lead to inaccurate drilling, increased vibration, or catastrophic failure during operation. Discard or professionally repair damaged bits immediately to avoid safety hazards.
